A hacking day of Mathematics for Data Science at the Department of Mathematics
BioLuca Coviello received the M.Sc. double degree in Data Science and Innovation & Entrepreneurship in November 2018 from the EIT Digital Master School (Universidad Politécnica de Madrid (UPM) and the Université Nice Sophia Antipolis (UNS)). He has been working at Fondazione Bruno Kessler (FBK) as a junior scientific programmer since 2014, focusing on the application of machine learning to bioimaging and natural language processing and the development of cloud-based framework for large scale dataset analysis. He is now a GARR fellowship student at FBK, working on the application of artificial intelligence to agriculture as a low cost solution for improving crop quantity and quality.
Version Control Systems (VCS) are essential tools for modern software development, whether it’s about a personal or team project. VCSs allow for easy collaboration (no more USB sticks or drive/dropbox folders), create versioned backups that help tracking changes to every single line of code over time, and give the opportunity to simultaneously work on a project without interfering with others. The first part of the webinar will cover an introduction to Git (one of the most used VCS tools) and on how it works, while the second will focus on practical exercises for using Git for personal and collaborative use. All the practical exercises will be performed using the command line (git shell).
